Privacy Policy

By default, rex stores what you add - titles, notes, ratings, tags, who recommended something to you - locally on your device. This page explains what that means today, and how you'll find out if it ever changes (for example, if rex adds an optional account or cloud sync feature in the future).

What rex does today

• No analytics, crash reporting, or usage tracking.
• No ads, and no third-party ad or tracking SDKs.
• No data is sold to anyone, ever.
• No server or account system today - your data stays on your device unless you choose to share or export it yourself.

Data storage

By default, your recommendations (titles, categories, ratings, notes, tags, and similar details) and, if you choose to set them, an optional profile name and email are stored in a local database on your device. Deleting the app, or using Settings → Delete all data inside the app, permanently erases this data.

If rex ever adds an optional way to back up or sync your data - for example, across your own devices, or a sign-in to make that possible - it will be off by default, clearly explained, and this policy will be updated before that feature is available, not after.

Camera permission (Scan a Rex)

rex requests camera access only to support the optional "Scan a Rex" feature, which lets you import a recommendation from a QR code someone shows you in person. The camera feed is processed on your device in real time to detect a QR code; no photo or video is ever saved, stored, or transmitted. If you don't use this feature, the camera is never accessed. Denying camera access does not prevent you from installing or using the rest of the app.

Sharing, exporting, and importing

rex lets you share a recommendation, or your whole list, as text, an image, a file, or a QR code - but only when you choose to and only through your device's own share sheet, clipboard, or file system. As of today, none of this goes through a rex-operated server. What happens to a shared file or message afterward (e.g. if you send it over a messaging app) is governed by that app's own privacy policy, not rex's.

Children's privacy

rex is not directed at children. If rex ever introduces accounts or other features that involve providing personal information, they won't knowingly be offered to children under 13 (or the relevant minimum age where you live).

Changes to this policy

If rex ever changes what data it collects or how it's stored - including adding an optional account or cloud sync feature - this page will be updated first, before that change ships, with a new "Last updated" date above.
